Ten hours
We ended up spending ten hours in our local ER yesterday. John starts his chemo on Monday. He got his “routine” labs done yesterday morning. We were on the way home and got the call from his oncology nurse that he needed another transfusion.
With his myeloma, he’s not making new blood cells, and he’ll need transfusion support until the chemo does its thing. I expected this, but the inefficiency of the whole process is a bit ridiculous. Using the ER for a semi-urgent but not-an-emergency transfusion seems like an inappropriate use of resources. At any rate, we finally got home at about two AM.
As you can see, I made use of the time by knitting a sock. That’s the second of the pair. The yarn is from Shilasdair, and is just lovely. They don’t have any of it listed for sale currently, but never fear, I have more in my stash.
I did attempt to catch up on my reading for my upcoming classes, since my butt was stuck in a chair all evening.
I gave up on that idea. Trying to read anything (much less Heidegger) while sitting in a cheap plastic chair in the middle of a busy ER hallway was a stupid plan. It’s a good thing that I also packed the knitting.
I’m off to head back down the Heidegger rabbit hole. I’m sure there will be more of the Myeloma Memoir soon. Have a good weekend.

Hope the rest of your weekend is much nicer.
Sounds like a long day.
