Reclaimed yarn
There was a question in the comments on my last post, about how I reclaimed the yarn from that red sweater. The pattern was the Faery Ring sweater. The designer did a second version in larger sizes, which wasn’t finished at the time I knit it, so be aware of that if you decide to knit one for yourself. I used the original version in the smaller sizes to MacGyver the hood and sleeves.
The sweater body was knit in one piece up to the armholes, then divided into fronts and back. The sleeves are knit separately and seamed in, the hood added last. I started by taking the sleeves off, then unraveling the hood and going from there. I’m very enthusiastic at weaving in ends, so occasionally I had to just do a bit of slicing and dicing to get to a continuous thread. I wound it up into balls as I went, eventually ending up with a pile of yarn balls that were roughly 100 grams each.
That last photo is the leftover bits that weren’t long enough to bother with.
Here’s what I ended up with.
Then I wound it all back into hanks.
Leaving me with this.
I gave it all a nice long soak, then hung it up to dry.
There you go! This yarn knits up into fabulous cables, so it will eventually be destined for a sweater that I’ll actually wear.

You are adorable enjoying the lively music as you unravel that faery sweater! A perfect demo of reclaiming yarn for something new.
That red is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your process!
